Omi is a Sri Lankan trick-taking game for four players in two teams. Your partner sits opposite you, and the players on your left and right play against you.
The cards
32 cards: A K Q J 10 9 8 7 in each suit, aces high. Dealing and play go anticlockwise, so the next player is always the one on your right.
Choosing trumps
The dealer gives everyone four cards. The player on the dealer's right looks at those four and names the trump suit. Then everyone gets four more.
Playing a hand
The player who chose trumps leads the first trick. Follow suit if you can. If you can't, play any card: a trump to try to win the trick, or something else to throw away. The highest trump wins the trick. If nobody played a trump, the highest card of the suit led wins. The winner leads the next trick.
Scoring
| 5 to 7 tricks, and your team chose trumps | 1 token |
| 5 to 7 tricks, and the other team chose trumps | 2 tokens |
| All 8 tricks, called Kapothi | 3 tokens |
| 4 tricks each | No tokens. The next team to win a hand takes 1 extra, or more if ties repeat. |
Each team starts with ten token cards, the 2 to 6 of two suits. Tokens you win come out of the other team's supply, and the first team to win 10 takes the game. The deal passes to the right after every hand.
Optional rule
With Kapothi must be called switched on in Settings, all eight tricks earn 3 tokens only if your team announces it before the seventh trick. If you announce it and then lose either of the last two tricks, the other team takes 4 tokens.
